Disruptions

Disruptions. Our lives are full of them, some more impactful than others. They can come in tiny human packages calling our name in the middle of a conversation, or through the ultimate thief of joy when we compare ourselves to someone else who just seems to have it all together. The definition of disruption, according to Oxford Languages, is “disturbance or problems which interrupt an event, activity, or process.” Disturb, problem, interrupt, all such negative words at first glance. We do not want our sleep disturbed, we want to provide solutions not bring problems, and how many of us are guilty of shooting glaring eyes at someone who interrupts us mid-sentence? Distractions are not something I would say most of us seek out in our lives, yet recently I was challenged to do just that. It was brought to my attention to look for the distractions in my life that could be leading me to something better.

This challenge was so unsettling and inspiring all in one. Immediately, I went to the big things in my life – divorce, miscarriage, death, and we sure can all relate to a big one called a global pandemic. I realized quickly that while all of these disruptions in my life were originally the kind that knock you down and completely throw you off course, they are also the kind that have taught me things and allowed me to grow in ways I never knew possible. It was then that I realized I was missing the little ones. I was so clearly focused on the life-altering moments that I looked past the sneaky ones unraveling the tapestry of my life one stitch at a time. The distractions of I will start tomorrow, just a little more time, when I am less busy, every excuse possible distractions that smacked me right in the face. I had let myself go. It was physical, mental, spiritual, and everything in between. This challenge to find what I thought were big problems or disturbances to lead me to the greater things had actually led me to the best gift of all – it really is about the small stuff in life sometimes.

This led my husband and I to start Cura Complete. We both recognize the need to care for ourselves and others in all aspects of life.
